Going Over Ninety

Connie Reeves, on horseback at 101

These three women provide remarkable examples of the levels of mental and physical activity that are possible at an advanced age.

Muriel Duckworth (1908-2009)

Not everyone is as physically gifted as Porchon-Lynch and Reeves, or as intellectually gifted as Duckworth; but discipline and hard work were doubtless a huge part of their “luck” in holding up so well.

I intend to keep believing that I can, and acting like it, for as long as I can. I hope I’m still doing yoga at 93, and riding horseback at 101. I certainly plan to be.
